The MTA West End Line is undergoing major restorative work including structural repairs to the 9th Avenue Station and repairs and repainting of the elevated steel structure. The West End Line runs elevated for 4.5 miles from 9th Avenue Station to Coney-Island Stillwell Avenue, serving the communities of Sunset Park, Borough Park, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, and Coney Island with the D train.

Koysman Engineering (Koysman) provided engineering and inspection services for the elevated structure of the line. This included field investigation to assess existing conditions in coordination with MTA and utility providers such as Con Edison. The firm was also tasked locating and creating drawings reflecting all existing traffic signage and signaling along the MTA structure as well as locating utility infrastructure and potential conflicts with the restoration work.

Beyond taking inventory of the existing conditions, Koysman created short, intermediate, and long-term maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT) plans designed in accordance with NYCDOT standards to ensure the flow of traffic on the street network below the restoration work. For the 9th Avenue Station repair work, Koysman created staging and blocking plans for the construction equipment involved in restoring the concrete structure of the station during the weekend work hours while also maintaining passenger service during the week.
